And Oppo is still alive.

Well, who knows, 8 pm or 9 pm could very well be the end, but for now, we’re still live.

Tell you what, someone go wake Stef or McParland up and ask either what’s gonna happen.

Kinja'd!!!

Have that car there as respite.

Well, they haven’t had the auction yet, so it would be a little weird to close shop now.

I think lotsof people on Oppo need to understand how big media groups like this work :)

A change of ownership means that most likely nothing will happen for the next 2 months or even more... Things are taken slowly, everything is carefully studied and evaluated...etc. Also, they won’t just “pull the plug”. Like the closure of certain internet services, user are made aware and given a closing date months in advance. So it will very certainly take a while before anything actually happen.

Another thing that these preppers should realize is that the user sites are basically repositories for the core users—core users that are able to retain new users, generate content, help out in moderating FP sites, and generally be the lifeblood that keeps FPs running. It would be too daft for anyone who would buy something like this to just suddenly wipe clean user sites.

That’s like buying an entire state and kicking out EVERY SINGLE CITIZEN to “start fresh” and build and build infrastructure with no one to use them, thinking this New City will attract new comers just because it’s a “New City”. Sure, they will come, but they will go afterward.

Nah, if we stay honest, all Oppo does is produce free content from time to time that gets reshared on the FP. Main problem with that being that Oppo is advertising-free which means that a 1.1 million click article does not make money directly per se... Click on the “Most honest Viper Craigslist ad Ever” and you will see that everywhere on the page, it redirects to other Oppo articles, that don’t make $$ either.

Oppo is expendable and not very useful in itself as even the great stuff that it produces generates no revenue whatsoever. For Oppo to be kept, we’d have to accept seeing our articles being actually republished under the Jalopnik banner, instead of just shared on the FP. But as of right now, if I were to own Gawker, I’d see absolutely no reason to keep Oppo in the format that it is today.
